ATTENTION APPLE FANS:Samsung Rockets Past Apple To Take The Lead In Global Smartphone Sales

For the past couple of years, Apple fans have responded to the Android threat with an evolving series of arguments about why Android isn't a threat:
  • Initially, the argument was that Android phones sucked compared to the iPhone, which was at least a year or more ahead
  • Then, when Android phones improved and the gap closed, Apple fans pointed out that  that the iOS platform was was still much bigger than Android and therefore much better for developers
  • Then, when Android became the smartphone market-share leader, Apple fans pointed out that Android phones were made by several different manufacturers and that Apple was still the biggest smartphone maker and that the App Store was still the best platform for developers
  • And so on...
But now Android isn't just the operating system market share leader. Now, a single Android manufacturer, Samsung, has blown past Apple in global handset sales, shipping a 28 million units in Q3 while Apple only sold 17 million iPhones.
Yes, there were some mitigating factors. Q3 was a disappointing quarter for Apple iPhone sales, because consumers were waiting for the iPhone 5. Samsung's shipments were sales into the channel, not end-user sales. Samsung's smartphone sales include some Windows phones. And, yes, Apple will likely have a monster Q4 on the back of the iPhone 4S.
But still...

Android has now blasted past iOS in the smartphone platform market. Samsung has now blasted past Apple in the global handset market. Samsung and Motorola phones have now come very close to the iPhone in terms of design and performance, so much so that even some former Apple fanatics are defecting to Android. And Android has become an increasingly viable and important platform for developers (and, if past is prologue, is on its way to becoming the most important).
No matter how you look at it, in a race for global smartphone platform domination, this is a worrisome trend for Apple.
As the history of the tech industry has demonstrated again and again, technology platform markets tend to standardize around a single dominant platform. Although several different platforms can co-exist while a market is developing, eventually a clear leader emerges. And as it does, the leader's power and "network effects" grow, while the leverage of the smaller platforms diminishes.
In the case of Android, this growing power will not lead to enormous profits for Google, because, right now anyway, Google is not selling Android. (Instead, Google is building a "moat" around its wildly profitable search business and making it easier for people to use Google search from their phones. This may change when Google acquires Motorola and starts selling integrated handsets itself.)
But the better Android phones get, and the more market share Android gains, the more Android's network effects will increase, and the more Apple's leverage over the iPhone ecosystem will diminish. And that can only be bad news for Apple's ability to continue to command exploding profits from iPhones, app developers, musicians, media companies, and others who now must pay it big distribution fees because they have no other choice.
Similarly, the bigger other global handset manufacturers get relative to Apple, the less (relative) leverage Apple will have over partners in the global parts-and-manufacturing supply chains.
As we've noted frequently, Apple learned some key lessons after getting clobbered in the PC platform market in the 1990s. And it has three key advantages that it didn't have then:
  • Its products are priced the same as, or below, the competition (In the 1980s and 1990s, Apple's Macs were always "premium" priced)
  • The "platform" aspect of smartphones is not as all-powerful as the platform aspect of PCs, because so many apps are built into all phones and/or are cloud-based or otherwise platform agnostic, and
  • Android is still a fragmented platform, with several different versions that aren't cross-compatible, reducing the advantages of a common platform
All these advantages have helped Apple continue to thrive over the past couple of years. But Apple's decision to move the launch of the latest iPhone back thre months, as well as its decision not release a revolutionary new phone until next year, have helped Android close the gap. And the ongoing Android share gains, as well as Samsung's blowout quarter and the disappointing Q3 iPhone sales, should be wake-up calls.

NOW ITS TIME FOR iTV,YES APPLE BUILDING A TV

Nick Bilton over at the New York Times has quietly released what is   either a mega-scoop or some sharp speculation supported by original reporting.
We're not sure which. But we're convinced:
Apple's building a TV, and it will be powered by Siri.
Steve Jobs' "I've finally cracked it" comment to Walter Isaacson, Bilton says, was referring to the TV interface, not the actual TV set. Instead of having a pile of remotes on our coffee tables, or an absurdly complicated remote keyboard like the one Google uses with Google TV, we'll just tell Siri what you want to watch. And Siri will play it.
Per Bilton:
  • Apple has been working on its TV solution since 2007
  • A year ago, a source of Bilton's said a TV was a "guaranteed product" for Apple, because "Steve thinks the industry is totally broken."
  • Barclays estimates that TVs could quickly be a $19 billion business for Apple, assuming the company only captures 5% of the market
  • To roll out a TV, Apple has to wait until the price of 42-inch displays falls further
  • Bilton thinks we'll see the TV in late 2012 or early 2013
Based on our mixed experience with Siri so far, we'd be surprised if "she" was the only interface with Apple's iTV, as we're assuming it will be called. Business Insider's gadget god, Steve Kovach, says iPhones and iPads will also likely be usable as remotes. That will be handy in case you can't get Siri to understand what you want. ... or if you just feel ridiculous talking to your TV.

APPLE IS GOING TO LAUNCH ITS NEW VERSION OF IPHONE

Apple Inc is going to launch its new version of iPhone, it is not sure that Apple will launch iPhone 5G or 4GS. From Apple’s previous experience it can be predicted that now iPhone 4GS will be released.
As you know after iPhone 3G, there comes iPhone 3GS and then 4G. Now 4GS can also be the upcoming iPhone from Apple. There are certain reasons with the help of which we are talking about iPhone 4GS.
The emergence of iPhone 4GS protective cases and the stories by various blogs point towards something like 4GS. We are not saying that 5G will not come but it can be delayed and in October might be iPhone 4GS launched.
It has been reported that iPhone’s new version will be having 8 mega pixel camera and dual-core A5 processor that is being used in iPad 2. If Apple launches iPhone 4GS then its price will be normal and it will be less expensive but if it is iPhone 5G then more enhanced features will be included and the price will also be high.
These all are rumors, any of the iPhone 4GS or 5G can be launched and real thing is till now hidden.

App downloads on Android overtake Apple - selling more than iPhone and iPad combined

Google's Android platform has become the most popular platform for downloading apps, beating the iPhone and the iPad combined.
The operating system accounted for 44 per cent of all app downloads in the second quarter of this year, a survey has revealed.
Apple only got 31 per cent across all of its platforms. The figures were published the day after the release of Steve Jobs’ biography.
In the book the Apple founder rails against the Android and brands it a ‘stolen product’ for its similarity to the iPhone operating system.
He also threatens to fight until his ‘last dying breath’ and go to ‘thermonuclear war’ to stop it being a success.
Last week, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer also derided the operating system, saying you needed to be a 'computer scientist' to understand Android phones.
But a flood of low-priced handsets this summer has catapulted Android ahead of Apple for the first time in terms of app downloads.
It follows in the wake of reports that Samsung's Galaxy Android handsets had outsold iPhone during the last quarter.
Google launched Android in 2007 as an open-source platform, which means anybody was able to use it for free and redesign the hardware as well as coming up with their own software.
Its success has helped make Samsung one of the world’s most successful smartphone makers even amid the unending demand for the iPhone.
The study from ABI research found that Android’s success was helped by a 36 per cent increase in phone shipments from the previous three months.
Yet despite the increases, by some measures it still has not beaten Apple.
Dan Shey, practice director of mobile services at ABI, said: ‘Android’s app downloads per user still lag behind Apple’s by 2 to 1’.
So far Android has some 500,000 app submissions and 315,000 for sale compared to 600,000 submissions and 456,000 on sale for Apple’s products.
Google recently updated its Android operating system to 4.0 with the nickname ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ whilst Apple has completed a major update for the iPhone as well.
The biography of Jobs, written by U.S. author Walter Isaacson, tells how the tech guru erupted in a rage when he learned the details about Android.
During one discussion about a patent lawsuit over the Android Isaacson writes that Jobs said: ‘I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this’.
He continued: ‘Our lawsuit is saying, 'Google you f****** ripped off the iPhone, wholesale ripped us off.

The Secret of Driving YouTube Traffic to Your Website

When you start talking about all the different ways you can drive traffic to your site, you have to talk about YouTube. It has been sizzling hot for many marketers yet others continue to overlook this highly trafficked video search engine.
Videos are another great way to drive hundreds of thousands of visitors. The quickest way to get started is with your blog.

YouTube is a great resource to get started with sharing videos.

4 Stunning Facts

Sure, there are plenty of other video search engines, but none of them even come close to YouTube. Consider the statistics gathered by Website-Monitoring.com:
  1. 24 hours of video is uploaded every minute
  2. YouTube exceeds 2 billion views a day
  3. The average person spends 15 minutes a day on YouTube
  4. More video is uploaded to YouTube in 60 days than all 3 major US networks created in 60 years

How to Turn Articles into Videos

First, let me start with a video to show you how it’s done.
You’ll also find the step-by-step directions below the video.
Step 1:
Start by copying your article/blog post into a Word doc or any text editor. Don’t forget to include the title!
Step 2:
Make sure to separate each sentence with a blank space. Remember, each sentence will become its own slide, so plan accordingly!
Step 3:
Save your document as “Text Only” or whatever other equivalent your specific program provides for saving it as a text file.
Step 4:
In your PowerPoint, go to File->Open. Open your newly saved text file containing your article. If your article does not open the way it’s shown in the video (each sentence in its own slide), then you didn’t save it in the correct format – go back and resave it.
Step 5:
Quickly style your slides according to your preference. Time-saving tip: select ALL slides to the left and style them all at the same time.
Step 6:
Record your presentation with whatever video recording software you already have, like Camtasia, Screenflow, or Jing.
Step 7:
Distribute your video to as many video sites as possible to maximize your potential for quality one way link building.

Make sure your video has a title that will catch their attention. If your video is called "My Random Video #1" it doesn’t tell you anything about the videos content and it's boring as hell. Your title should give the viewer a good idea of what it is about. Try to use keywords in your video to help it get indexed faster and make it easier to find. Ask yourself when you're looking at videos on YouTube which ones stand out for you.

Top 10 Free Traffic Methods

1.     SEO – it stands for Search Engine Optimization. If you’re in the business of promoting your website, then you’ve most likely heard of this already. As the name suggests, its goal is to optimize your website’s content for search engines so that your site pops up in the search results for relevant keywords. Good SEO is essential for quality, long term traffic.
2.     Article Marketing – sites like Ezine Articles allow users to open an account that will allow you to share information relevant to your website as well as provide a direct link to your site after the content. It’s easy to do because you’re writing about what you already know.
3.     Video Marketing – while most of the stuff promoted online comes in the form of reading material, websites like YouTube have provided users with an avenue to post promotional videos for free. They’re easily searched and can be indexed in search engines, thanks to tags and keywords, and they’re a friendlier way to promote your site since it’s visual.
4.     Social Networking – this one’s taken into by big and small companies alike. With so many people’s lives revolving around Facebook and Twitter, exposure to countless audiences worldwide is always guaranteed if your site has its own Facebook and Twitter page.
5.     Forum Posting – the good thing about forums is that they bring people of the same interests together in one place. All you have to do is to be part of a site that promotes an interest relevant to your website and regularly share your knowledge while promoting your site. Be careful not to SPAM, though – forum moderators are quite vigilant against their threads getting cluttered up with advertising more than relevant info.
6.     Blog Commenting – this is just like forum posting, except that it’s much easier to do, since you just need to leave a comment on blog posts that are connected to your site. But you have to be careful about SPAM with this method as well. More often than not, blog authors who see any link on comments find this as a SPAM indicator, so be sure to leave comments relative to the topic so that you won’t fall under that category.
7.     Yahoo Answers – browse through the categories and answer questions that are related to your website. The goal is to build up enough credibility for yourself around the system so that people look to your responses often, and they’ll most likely follow websites that you recommend – including your own, and that will boost traffic.
8.     Create Backlinks – these are simply links that lead back to your site that are posted on other sites. You can do this on your own blog or blogs, or you can work with other blog authors. It's best to build links on high PageRank websites. They’re very easy to do and are essential for good SEO.
9.     Traffic Exchanges – also known as Hit Exchange, this is similar to a backlink, but involves a bigger community of users. You will most likely have to get a membership in a group where its members agree to drive traffic to each other’s websites. You will only need a couple of minutes each day to fulfill your end of the deal to benefit from the exchange.
10.    Social Bookmarking – sites like Digg and StumbleUpon are very easy and straightforward to use. You just need to share links through your account for other users to see.

Jobs refused cancer treatment too long

When he eventually sought surgery, the rare form of pancreatic cancer had spread to the tissues surrounding the organ, biographer Walter Isaacson said in an interview with "60 Minutes" on CBS, to be aired on Sunday.
Jobs also played down the seriousness of his condition and told everyone he was cured but kept receiving treatment in secret, Isaacson said in the interview.
The biography hits bookstores October 24 and emerged from scores of interviews with Jobs. It is expected to paint an unprecedented, no-holds-barred portrait of a man who famously guarded his privacy fiercely but whose death ignited a global outpouring of grief and tribute.
The book reveals Jobs was bullied in school, tried various quirky diets as a teenager, and exhibited early strange behavior such as staring at others without blinking, according to the Associated Press, which said it bought a copy on Thursday, without disclosing how.
In his "60 Minutes" interview, Isaacson confirmed details that had been speculated upon or widely reported, including that Jobs might have been cured of his "slow-growing" cancer had he sought professional treatment sooner, rather than resorting to unconventional means.
Jobs deeply regretted putting off a decision that might have ultimately saved his life, according to Isaacson.
"He tries to treat it with diet. He goes to spiritualists. He goes to various ways of doing it macrobiotically and he doesn't get an operation," Isaacson said in the interview.
"I think that he kind of felt that if you ignore something, if you don't want something to exist, you can have magical thinking," he said. "We talked about this a lot."
Jobs announced in August 2004 that he had undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his pancreas. In 2008 and 2009 -- as his dwindling weight stirred increasing alarm in Silicon Valley and on Wall Street -- he said first he was fighting a "common bug," then that he was suffering from a hormone imbalance. In 2009, news emerged that he had undergone a liver transplant.
FAVORITE BAND: BEATLES
Jobs died on October 5 at the age of 56. Outpourings of sympathy swept across the globe as state leaders, business rivals and fans paid their respects to the man who touched the daily lives of countless millions through the Macintosh computer, iPod, iPhone and iPad.
He had never revealed much about his life or thinking -- until he commissioned Isaacson for a biography he hoped would let his children know him better.
The book shed new light on how Jobs' relationship with longtime friend and ex-Apple board member, then-Google Inc CEO Eric Schmidt -- unraveled when the Internet search giant chose to go toe-to-toe with Apple in the smartphone arena.
According to AP's account of the biography, Jobs went on an expletive-laced rant against what he called "grand theft," after Google launched its Android mobile software on phones made by Taiwan's HTC Corp in 2010.
"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong," Jobs was cited as saying in the book, according to AP. "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."
Experts say Apple and Samsung Electronic's legal patent battle -- spanning at least three continents -- was really an attack on Google's 3-year-old software, now the world's most-used smartphone operating system.
Details also emerged about Jobs' life away from the world of business, which by all accounts had consumed most of his time.
Adopted as a baby by a family in Silicon Valley, Jobs met his biological father -- Abdulfattah "John" Jandali -- several times in the 1980s without realizing who he was, according to Isaacson.
Jandali had been running a restaurant in the area at the time. But Jobs never got in touch with Jandali once he found out the restaurateur was his biological father, according to an excerpt from the TV interview posted on CBS' website.
The technology icon also revealed he stopped going to church at age 13 after he saw starving children on the cover of Life Magazine, the AP cited the book as saying.
Jobs spent years studying Zen Buddhism and has famously traveled through India in search of spiritual guidance.
He talked in his biography about his love for design and called Apple's design chief Jonathan Ive his "spiritual partner"; Ive had "more operation power" at Apple than anyone besides Jobs himself, according to AP.
Jobs, who counted The Beatles among his favorites, came up with the name of his iconic company while on one of his "fruitarian diets." He had just returned from an apple farm and thought the moniker was "fun, spirited and not intimidating," AP cited the biography as saying.

Web Browser

With all that has been happening lately in the world of web browsers, I thought I would do a brief overview of some of the most popular choices available. Bear in mind this is not an exhausted list and they are listed in no specific order or preference.

A web browser is a software program that allows one access to the Internet and programs on a computer’s hard drive. It provides other functionality not often thought of by the average computer user while navigating the various programs on the computer and sites on the Internet such as spell check, password management, tab browsing, run large applications and download items to name a few. You can have more than one web browser installed on your computer at the same time, in fact I encourage you to do so in case there is a problem with your main browser, you would have another way of accessing the Internet and performing browser-tasks; I have three currently installed on my desktop.
Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) – First released in 1995, IE was the most widely used web browser for many years and continue to be one of the most popular. Statically, according to w3schools.com as of February 2011, IE is used 26.5% of the time. The latest version of IE is 9 and there is a mobile version.
Mozilla’s Firefox – Released in 2004, this browser is currently the most widely used web browser as shown by w3school.com with 42.4% user rate in February 2011. Additionally, it is one of the most standard-compliant web browsers available. The latest version of Firefox is 8 and there is also a mobile version.
Google’s Chrome – Released in 2008 and is one of the most popular browsers with a 24.1% statistical user rate. The latest version of Chrome is 14.
Apple’s Safari – Released in 2003 and is the default browser for Mac with a 4.1% user rate, but is also available for Windows and iPhone operating systems. The latest version is 5.1.

Opera – Released in 1996, this is the smallest and fastest web browser in the world according to Opera software and has a user rate of 2.5%. The browser is used in smartphones, internet activated mobile phones PDAs, Windows, Mac, and Linus operating systems. The latest version of Opera is 11.51 for Windows.

3 Mystical Ways to Become a Super Money Magnet Now

There are some manifesting techniques so simple yet so wild that many people will doubt it because they have not taken the time to examine the very nature of the universe or the law of attraction to its fullest. Even the teachers of the secret will not share many of those techniques because they know that many people are not ready and are still in doubt about everything. Too New Age, to airy fairy, is what some will say. Ah and those will miss out greatly.

You can become a super money Magnet by first starting to be open. Open up to what reality really is if you truly desire to apply the law of attraction in order to manifest the money and conditions that you desire.

Here are five techniques to trigger your consciousness in a new more expanded way.

Star Gaze

Look at the sky and see the stars. Use your creative visualization skills and go way beyond the stars for a minute. Go deeper and wider and allow yourself to realize that you live in a vast and abundant universe that is greater than any tiny wish that you have. Realize that there are endless unused possibilities in the universe.

Change Your Perspective

Do you recall visiting a high building and looking down to a location at street level where you may have been walking earlier? What a perspective! How amazingly different it all is when you can see life from up above. Again you can have a much greater understanding of the law of attraction and your ability to manifest more money than ever before if you stop looking at your life at eye level. Manifest money and greatness by first going above your present condition. You can better see how each action is connected to all of your life. You can better see what actions to take in order to get the law of attraction to have full effect in your life.

What do You Have Which Others Want?

To manifest more money you have to also look within yourself. Every great guru and success coach will tell you that in order to manifest more money they started with questioning themselves. They possessed the burning desire and held that desire in their mind until it expanded and attracted the perfect answer. Even still they realized that they already possessed the talent and skills needed to manifest the money they wanted. The law of attraction certainly favors those whose who honor their own inner wealthy. If you are looking to do something which is outside of your own personal skill you are sure to find failure.

As you apply all three steps you will find that you unplug yourself from the feeling of lack and limitation. You can manifest greater things as you realize that you live in an intensely abundant universe that is waiting to give birth to your dreams. Ask yourself are you willing to take action to learn the secrets to law of attraction and manifest money quickly? Are you willing to be the money magnet of your dreams, knowing that no matter where you are or where you came from you have access to make your life a huge success with little to no big effort? Few people will ask themselves these poignant questions and make the changes that are needed? Are you one of those people?

Unlocking Self Improvement Power Course

We learn our lessons when we experience pain. We finally see the warning signs and signals when things get rough and tough. When do we realize that we need to change diets? When none of our jeans and shirts would fit us. When do we stop eating candies and chocolates? When do we realize that we need to stop smoking? When we realize that we're gonna die tomorrow.

The only time most of us ever learn about unlocking our self-improvement power is when the whole world is crashing and falling apart.

Change will happen, like it or hate it. At one point or another, we are all going to experience different turning points in our life - and we are all going to eventually unlock our self-improvement power not because the world says so, not because our friends are nagging us, but because we realized its for our own good.

Now, you don't have to feel a tremendous heat before realizing the need for self-improvement. Unlocking your self-improvement power means unlocking yourself up in the cage of thought that "its just the way I am". It is such a poor excuse for people who fear and resist change. Most of us program our minds like computers.

Self-improvement may not be everybody's favorite word, but if we look at things in a different point of view, we might have greater chances of enjoying the whole process instead of counting the days until we are fully improved. Three sessions in a week at the gym would result to a healthier life, reading books instead of looking at porns will shape up a more profound knowledge, going out with friends and peers will help you take a step back from work and unwind. And just when you are enjoying the whole process of unlocking your self-improvement power, you'll realize that you're beginning to take things light and become happy.

5 Best Linux Security Distributions at Present

At present we say that Linux is the most secure operating system in the world. But since most of the hackers are using Linux at present there is a wide need to know the most secure as well as stable Linux Distribution. With security constantly in the news lately, you can’t help but feel ill at ease and vulnerable — vulnerable to teams of hackers whose only motivations are to expose and attack their victims. Perhaps you think you’ve done due diligence by keeping your patches updated, installing security fixes, and maintaining a corporate firewall. Those methods are effective about 50 percent of the time. For the other 50 percent, you need to do more. You need penetration testing, security audits, intrusion prevention and intrusion detection, and you need to plug security holes that only hackers know about by using the tools they use to compromise your systems.
I have made a list for all those who want the most secure environment.
1. BACKTRACK LINUX:- The BackTrack distribution originated from the merger of two formerly competing distributions which focused on penetration testing:
WHAX: a Slax based Linux distribution developed by Mati Aharoni, a Moroccan security consultant. Earlier versions of WHAX were called Whoppix and were based on Knoppix.
Auditor Security Collection: a Live CD based on Knoppix developed by Max Moser which included over 300 tools organized in a user-friendly hierarchy.
The overlap with Auditor and WHAX in purpose and tools collection partly led to the merger. Currently at version 5.0 BackTrack Linux is the highest rated and most acclaimed Linux security distribution. BackTrack is not a business desktop or server system but is a security-oriented system built solely for the purpose of network and computer penetration testing. BackTrack can be run from a bootable DVD, a thumbdrive or a hard disk. BackTrack Linux is a specialized distribution created to assist security professionals in performing security audits on target networks. But, with BackTrack Linux, you don’t have to be a seasoned security professional to use it — even security newcomers will find BackTrack easy to setup, use, and update. You can download BackTrack as an ISO image or as a VMware virtual machine.

2. Astaro Security Linux:- Now a days it is known as Astaro Security Appliance but the name doesn’t stop it from getting the features that it has been famous for in the fraternity. It comeS in three flavors: Hardware, software and virtual. In the virtual appliance category, Astaro offers appliances built specifically for network security, mail security, Web security and Web application security. Its virtual appliances hold the VMware Ready certification. The network security virtual appliance, for example, includes a configurable firewall, intrusion protection, DOS attack protection, NAT tools, VPN, IPSec Remote Access, LDAP authentication integration, and bandwidth control.
3. ENGARDE SECURITY LINUX:- EnGarde Linux is a Linux server distribution that is secure and perfect for use as an Internet server. It features intrusion detection, simple administration, secure network services, built-in alerts, Web services, DNS services, firewall, mail services and access to the Guardian Digital Support Network (GDSN). The GDSN provides free access to all system and security updates. EnGarde Regularly scheduled updates the first Tuesday of every month. Try before you buy with a downloadable live CD version of EnGarde.
NOW FOR SOME LIGHTWEIGHT STUFF.
4. OWL:- Openwall GNU/Linux (OWL) is a small, security-enhanced distribution suitable for virtual appliances, hardware appliances, and physical servers. OWL is binary compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. OWL is also a distribution used by many security professionals for security penetration testing and password cracking. Try JOHN THE RIPPER password cracking utility also.
5. LIVE HACKING CD:- This is a good distribution and by good I mean two things. First, it easily runs on older hardware and has minimum requirements of 512 MB RAM and a lowly PENTIUM-3 processor. Second, and more important is the reason for it s development. According to its term of use you can only download it if you abide by the prospect that you will only use it for ethical hacking. It comes in two versions. First is the LiveDVD version which comes with a GNOME interface and has all the hacking tools you would need. The Live Hacking DVD is based on open source technology and uses the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution as its base. But the CD version is not much at loss because most of the hacking software used today is command line.
If you get really inspired by this distribution then please try some other Linux Distributions also like LPS and SMOOTH WALL EXPRESS.

How to be a good programmer…My tips

At the very onset, let me make it clear that I DO NOT consider myself a good programmer. I rate my coding skills as average and I am still learning and have a long way to go before I am even slightly pleased with my programming skills. Yes I am better than quite a few people when it comes to programming, but thats merely because they are lazy and like to sit on idly all day and never bother about programming. Their horrible skills make my less horrible skills look marvellous. I have performed abysmally in ICPC and have never done well in any coding contest worth mentioning (I DO NOT consider college level contests worth mentioning). I havent succeeded yet in Google Summer of Code and my Imagine Cup moderate success (and glorious failure) isn’t much to write home about.
So most of the tips I will mention below are lessons learnt from failed endeavours, they are what I have wanted to be and I am not. So lets dive in.
1.Decide why you want to become a good programmer: Is it because you want a job, preferably in a high paying software firm? Great. Then you are set to reach NOWHERE. All good programmers I know are good because they loved what they did. Develop interest in programming. See, programming is the only branch in engineering where you can straightway apply what you learn. Your dad may have a car but he certainly wont allow you to tweak the V2 or swap it for a v6 just to see what happens. But with computers you can do whatever you want. You want to simulate a virus? Cool. Install a virtual OS and run it. Then, when you are done, remove the virtual hard disk. If you are good at what you do, you will get paid and surely get that dream job. Yes, even I want to work in a big software company. But thats not because of the fat paycheck. Its because of the work they do. Because of the exposure I will have. Have you ever bothered to find out what all these companies do and the enabling technologies behind their products or the kind of R&D they do? Jobs will come. Dont make yourself a sucker for one. Sachin is not a great cricketer today because he decided to play cricket to earn money and get dozens of endoresements.
2. Programming languages: Very often people equate good coding skills with number of programming langauges known. Thats just damn untrue. While knowing a lot of programming language is good and sometimes, even, essential; it is more important that you know one or two lanugages very well. I ‘know’ and have used more than a dozen programming languages and yet C and Java are the ones I am truly comfortable at. Thats sad of course. I really wanted to be good at Assembly and Lisp as well. Never got the time or chance to develop those skills. To be good at a language takes years (at least 2 years). Being good at a language means, you understand where it is best used and where using that language makes no damn sense. On the other hand, knowing a language takes anywhere from 3 days to a week. If you are a beginner, learn C first. Don’t buy Yashawant Kanetkar. Buy the book “The C Programming Language” by Brian W Kernighan and Dennis M Ritchie (If you don’t know who they are, do this 1. Slap yourself 2. Google their names). This book is not the easiest but is the best. Its a small book but it is the most powerful. Generations of programmers have been brought up on it. And if you think this book is tough for you, please do not harbour any misplaced desires of being a good programmer and do not waste your time by reading this post further. Programming is an art (not a science. Yes you read it correctly), and like any art it requires painstaking effort.
Some people suggest Python as the first language to be learnt. Python is certainly a good language and is easy too. But you will have to rely mostly on the internet for help as not many around you would know Python. Also C has the broadest usage among all programming languages. Also please DO NOT use Turbo C. Its so damn outdated. Use GCC. If you are in Windows download Dev C++. It has GCC
Read this (small) essay by Peter Norvig Teach yourself programming in 10 years . Again, do a Google [ ]search and find out who Peter Norvig is.
3. Algorithms: Any good programmer has a good understanding of algorithms. Its not necessary that you know each algo by heart (in fact good programmers never learn things by rote) but you must understand when to use what. Algos will broaden your understanding and give you new ways to tackle problems. Another important thing is Data Structures. Its more important than algo. Once you have chosen (or developed) the correct data structure, the algorithm becomes self evident. For algo, read the book “Introduction to Algorithm” by Thomas H Cormen et al. You may also refer Andy Tanenbaum’s “Data Structures in C and C++”. Also if you have desires to participate in coding contests (the respectable ones), “The Art of Programming Vol I to V” by Donald E Knuth are mandatory. Also may be “Concrete Mathematics” by Donald Knuth. Again reading does not mean remembering everything. Just try and understand whats written.
4. Coding contests: Coding contests are good for developing your algorithmic skills and they make you think fast. Its a good idea to participate in ACM ICPC or Topcoder.com. Then there are coding contests (like Sun’s Code for Freedom, Google’s Summer of Code, Microsoft’s Imagine Cup) where you develop a complete software. Such contests are spread over many months. Both require different sort of skills. You may be good in one and bad in another and yet you could be a good programmer. Contests like ICPC require lot of practice, fast thinking and you are expected to keep algos at the back of your mind. CFF, GSoC, on the other hand, requires creativity and focus spread over a long period of time. You dont have to come up with solutions too fast and you dont have to mug up algos. ICPC is like T10 while CFF,GSoc and Imagine Cup are like Test Matches. I would suggest you to participate in both types and then decide if you want to focus on either or both.
5. Participating in FOSS projects: You MUST participate in some free software projects. There are just too many. I am working on SCALASCA right now and then I will move on to Sun Grid Engine and Sun xVM Hypervisor and contribute code there. You learn a lot from these. You get to see a lot of code and learn the best practices. And did I mention, it looks good on your CV too. Most people catch cold feet when they go through some of the prerequities of such projects. Take Thunderbird for example. You would need to know a lot of C/C++ and Javascript (for developing modules). Now don’t wait till the day you are an expert in these languages before contributing. Programming is an art, don’t waste time sharpening your pencil when you should be drawing. You can ask me for directions.
6. Design Patterns: Any art is learnt by emulating. And therefore, you must emulate the best. Design Patterns are tried and tested architectural (of the software kind) solutions to some commonly encountered software design issues. And therefore, a basic knowledge of some common design patters in needed if you are planning to develop something that is even moderately complex. I suggest “Head First Design Patterns” from Oreilly as the first step.
7. Learning by emulation: Emulate the best. And this is possible by reading books written by the best and/or going through code from some of the best free software projects. I would urge anyone serious about programming to read the book “The Art of Unix Programming” by Eric S Raymond (dont forget to first slap yourself for not knowing who Eric Raymond is and then googling his name). You are not a programmer if you have not read that book. Period.
Now let me address a few common grouses
a. I dont find any interest in computers and want to do an MBA:Mainly a statement often repeated by Second Year(sophomore) students. Thats really your problem. I did not ask you to take Computers or even to join Engineering. You did not know, or bothered to find out, what you were getting into when you took up this branch of engineering and I am pretty sure you have NOT bothered to find out what awaits you in a MBA course either. I am also quite sure that 2 years after an MBA (if not earlier) you will also say pretty much the same thing about your job. Well what can I say. All the best
b. I dont like reading the books (or any books for that matter) that you mentioned above: Well this is not yet the world of Matrix where I can just feed in programming skills to your brain. Dont force yourself to read them. You can’t . Do it only if you want to. And if you don’t, please forget about being a good programmer. May be its time for you to use the excuse mentioned above (point a).
c. Give me one programming language that does all: There is none. Each has a different purpose. And thats how things are gonna remain buddy.
d. I want to a ‘real’ project: Thats great. You can do two things:1. Start one of your own 2. Join a FOSS project. But most people are not happy with this. They expect me to ‘give’ them a project, one thats easy (read, should not involve anything other than C and the only files you need to include should be stdio.h, conio.h (yes people here still use Turbo C) and may be string.h and math.h) and I should tell them what to learn. When people say this, they expect to go on a Autopilot ride.
e. I will learn X programming language by this sem/year/decade :There is no way you can sit with a book and learn a language. You need to do some real work with it, develop some real software and not just do those exercises in the book (that is necessary of course but not sufficient). Most of the languages I have learnt are because I was forced to do so as part of some project. Just pick up the basics in a day or two and then apply it to a real life project. Need ideas? Come to me.
Finally as Larry Wall says in Programming Perl : “We will encourage you to develop the three great virtues of a programmer: laziness, impatience, and hubris.”
Laziness:So that you go to great effort to reduce overall energy expenditure. It makes you write labor-saving programs that other people will find useful, and document what you wrote so you don’t have to answer so many questions about it. Hence, the first great virtue of a programmer
Impatience: The anger you feel when the computer is being lazy. This makes you write programs that don’t just react to your needs, but actually anticipate them. Or at least pretend to. Hence, the second great virtue of a programmer
Hubris: Excessive pride, the sort of thing Zeus zaps you for. Also the quality that makes you write (and maintain) programs that other people won’t want to say bad things about. Hence, the third great virtue of a programmer.
So get set on your way to become a great programmer, the likes of Richard Stallman, Rithcie, Brian, Raymond, Torvalds. All the best.

What Are Goals, Anyway?

Goals. Goal setting. It doesn't sound very glamorous, does it? In fact it sounds more like work. What many people don't realize, is that goals are like your To-Do list for your life. We all know about to-do lists, and probably can find half a dozen partially completed ones if pressed to look. Just something we do sometimes, but don't always take seriously.
When you ponder it, to-do lists help get all the stuff you know needs to be done out of your head and down on paper. Then you have a better chance to remember them, which certainly increases the odds of completing them. Doesn't it make sense that if you want to get the important stuff done about your life - your dream job, vacations, hobbies, you name it - putting them down in black and white increases your chances of success? Of course it does.
To look at it another way, goals are like road maps for your future, pointing the way to your exciting life destination, whatever that may be. Think about it; would you set off on a cross-country drive without printing out some turn-by-turn directions? Or leave without programming your cars' GPS? Or at least take the appropriate atlas with you? Not if you wanted to get there in any timely manner.
But let's say for a moment that you just got in the car in New York, heading west to Austin, without any clue about how to get there. It might turn out something like this. You turn on the GPS system and wait for instructions. The friendly voice of the navigation system comes on and says, "destination - anywhere; turn right, left or go straight at the next intersection." Might as well just turn it off and take your best guess. Getting to your hotel in Austin may never happen.
The same principle applies to your life goals. These are all the things you dream about and wish for in your life. We may think about them from time to time in nebulous, someday wish terms such as, "One day I want to have my own business." Well, without a plan, the steps to meet this life goal, your dream will most likely stay just that, a someday wish. Making your life goal to-do list sounds a bit more important now, doesn't it? There is nothing wrong with dreaming, it is how all great things start out, just an idea someone has. But to make the great idea come to life requires doing something. And not just doing anything, but following the steps to get you from New York to Austin, so to speak.
It is said that a dream is a wish. But Napoleon Hill said, "A GOAL is a dream with a deadline."
Get outside your box and expand your life to fit your dreams!

To get somewhere, you already have to be there

The irony in this world is that “To get somewhere, you already have to be there.”
From an individual perspective:
  • If you want to make money, you need to already have money.
  • To get a job, you need to be one-year experienced and not a fresher.
  • If you’re experienced and want to apply for a job that you really want to work on, you should already have the background of working in that area, and you should already know how to do all that the job entails.
  • If you want to write a book, publisher expects you to have already written a book before.
  • To be listened to, you need to be an expert, not an amateur, but how do you eventually become an expert if you’re never listened to?
From a startup perspective:
  • If you want to get funding, your startup should be in a position to not need funding.
  • If you want to stock your product in ezone, you should not be a 1-product company, but a 5-product company.
And on and on.
To get somewhere, you already have to be there.

P.S. I’m not condemning, condoning or approving of the situation. Just making an observation.

Qualities of Internet Marketers

Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about internet marketers? The information in the article below comes straight from well-informed experts with special knowledge about internet marketers.
Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.
Long term success through Internet Marketing isn’t exactly difficult; it is about making something work and then repeating the process over and over again. If IM is not really not that difficult to achieve success with, then why are there so many Internet marketers struggling to make it? Why are so many hopeful Internet Marketers failing to get it? The answer to these questions is simple; they don’t possess the qualities that each successful Internet Marketer needs to have.
Here are three things that you need to find the qualities that help you reach success.
If you’re a successful Internet marketer then it’s obvious that you have come across various hurdles and there must have been times when things went slow. This just proves that even successful Internet marketers have to work through periods of weakness now and then and there isn’t anything wrong with that. So what is different in how they handle these weaknesses?
They surround themselves with other people who have found success in their industries so that they will know how to face any situation that arises. They build their own support groups and systems and this is just one reason that it is easier for them to work through the hurdles that are put in their paths.
Successful Internet marketers are open minded and always are on a lookout for new opportunities. They know what kind of opportunities would work for them and what ideas they need to implement. This particular quality is highly desirable because it is what will help you feel free to experiment with new ideas and opportunities for success; this is the way to make sure that you get as much as possible from your business. They aren’t closed minded, which makes it easier for them to play the game according to the rules they decide for themselves. Failures will happen but they are simply stepping stones to success for these people. It’s important, then, that you keep your mind open as well, so that you will be able to see all of the opportunities that are present for you and see all of the chances you have to succeed.
A successful Internet Marketer has to be a self starter; when things need to be accomplished they simply jump into the fray and get to work without worrying or hesitating. They happen to be proactive and don’t really like waiting to get permission from someone. They set their own parameters and see to it that they follow up on them to meet their goals. Being a serious and successful Internet Marketer requires that you put forth a serious and honest effort; this will help you make sure that you achieve some real success. When you go out on your own, you learn a lot because you’ll make your own mistakes as you work to accomplish things and not wait for any external help or support.
As an Internet Marketer you need to know that passion is perhaps the most important quality you should possess and if you don’t, you need to work to cultivate it within yourself. It’s important to genuinely love what you do and enjoy what you do because that is the only way to stick with it long enough to take it to the next level. Putting in the extra hours that are required to develop your business should make you happy and that matters more than money. Keep studying, reading and learning new ways to improve your IM business and help it thrive because if you don’t have this knowledge it will be a lot harder to keep moving forward.

What True Love Means in Reality

True love really exists. It is very rare but some people are lucky enough to find it. If you are one of those lucky people who have found true love, make sure you hold on to it. Never ever make people you love feel like you are using them and that you do not love. This is because they might leave when you least expect it. However, there are some people who think that they are in love and that there love is true only for them to discover otherwise. True love means that a person loves you more than enough never to let you go. When you need him or her the most, they will be there to hold your hands and to assure you that things are going to be okay. True love will not bolt on the first sign of trouble.

True love means that the two people who say they love each other really love each other. They do not only say it to themselves and the people who are listening but they act on it. True love is never one sided where by one of the person in the relationship loves the other more than the other. It has to be at least equal and if it is not equal the difference should not be too great that is quite noticeable by people who were not even looking. True love is selfless, that is just what true love means.

True love means so many things. Among those things is that true love is all about sharing. People who love each other share things that affect them. They will not also say that something belongs to them and the other person should not touch it. True love will allow you to share each others things. Now here comes the complicated staff. True love though allows people to share things; true love is also respectful of people's possessions. They will not misuse them in the name of loving each other but rather they will be careful while using their partner’s things. They will even ask for permission to use the staff before they even try to get any where near it. So do not hide behind true love and spoil your partner’s things and expect them to understand because they love you.

True love means that you trust each other enough to close your eyes and let your partner lead the way. That means you believe in him or her and you know that they cannot hurt you because they love you. It also believes and trusts that you are not having a relationship behind their backs and that even if you went out, it wouldn't be to have an affair with someone else but it would be because you want to have fun with you friends. True love is everlasting and because of that it plans right ahead. If a person does not love you, you will not hear of any plans for the future. All their talks will be the present and never will you hear anything about the future.

Think Different…. Amaze Yourself….

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
These are the lines from one off the most famous ‘Think Different’ campaign by APPLE, a company known to the world for thinking differently and effectively.
People who think differently have not been given the due respect in our society that they should have been given at the first place. They struggled to conquer and once they achieved their feet everyone wanted to be abode their bandwagon. Be it Mahatma Gandhi, Mandela, Che Guevara, Bhagat Singh, Albert Einstein, Socrates or our very own Rancho from the film 3 idiots.
These are the people who dared to think different and conquered the world.
So be it the system in which you are a part or your home, think the same thing differently with a little more sense into it. Don’t do anything if only it was to be done. Learn from doing as doing something from your heart gives your thinking a new direction to see things and imagine them.
Love what you do, do what you love because at the end of the day it makes you a better person.
